The Presidio Middle School, a historic 1929 construction, was in need of modernization and accessibility upgrades to accommodate the many level changes due to the sloping site. Curriculum changes necessitated that the out-dated industrial arts wing be converted into modern science laboratories, while the period theater was seismically retrofitted and re-rigged. Sustainable and cost saving elements included the reuse of cabinetry, skylight railings, fixtures and display boards.

K2A developed and specified an historic five-color scheme and interior signage system inspired by the existing details. Both the exterior and interior finishes are designed to highlight the Art Deco features of this notable academic site.
